Sunday/Monday (back to work)

ies
I finished all of my squares! I laid them out at my moma's house and Bitsy tried to help me.
I picked a black and white floral pattern to go in between. We decided it looked very "scrap."
I cut all my triangles and squares and started sewing them into strips.
 Moma made blueberry/peach pie. Yes.
Hank gave me a mani gift certificate for Christmas. I cashed in last night at the Red Door Spa. I went for a Valentiney color. Here are my perfect (not for long) nails holding a pink wash cloth I finished knitting.

Yes

Week 1 is almost over and I am already worn out. Iced tea in a jar to the rescue (courtesy of my Moma's house). In one day I will be in Austin with the boy, and I'll listen to the new Randy Rogers Band album the whole way down. Well, maybe just the first two songs on repeat.

Bike Ride

What a great weekend. I made a bunch of dresses, hung out with family, and rode Chisolm Trail in Plano for the first time in about 18 years. It's in great shape and follows a creek. We pulled over a couple times to take pictures. It's about 3 miles. Pretty easy compared to the White Rock ten miler. When I was in college my brother, David, forbid me from putting a basket on my bmx bike. He said that it was just wrong. Since my new bike is just a whatever bike from Wal-mart, he didn't object when I attached a vintage wire gym basket to the front with quick ties. I think it looks pretty boss.

Holga Film-Day 4

Day four had it's moments. Two of my friends' mothers passed away last night. I found out this morning. It's a hard thing to hear. Having lost a parent at 23, this hits home. So tell your parents you love them.

I picked up my year old Holga film from Expert Imaging. I was surprised that so many "came out." These are my two favorites. So the windmill is for Bethanne, and the sunset for Ty. I love you guys.

Here's the song that makes me think of my Moma: I'll Always Come Back- K.T. Oslin

A Week in the Life

A week in the life challenge starts today. I will photo document, collect, write, and create for seven days and create a binder/flip book of my week. Here's hoping something good happens! Today Rachel and I cut roses from my mom's garden.

Dear Family

My Moma wrote her parents consistently from 1977-1994 as she was raising her children. My Memaw saved every letter and eventually typed them up and had them bound in a book called Dear Family. When I was in high school, Memaw surprised my mom with a copy for everyone in the family. I read it cover to cover back in 1994, but haven't looked at it since. I picked it back up a couple days ago and it's so good!!! I can't believe she had three kids at my age!

Some excerpts from Dear Family:

April 13, 1980
Tuesday. It was nice talking to you today Mom. Nothing much to write about so I guess I'll close with some cute sayings. I was putting T.J.'s pajamas on tonight after his bath so his hand didn't slide right through because he was still damp and he said "There's little T.J.'s hand!" as it finally came through.
Earlier after Randy had said "no" to David's request to play in the garage, David said, "Daddy can I play in the garage? You say, 'yeah.' That's the nice word." Randy started to talk and David said, "Daddy, don't talk when I'm talking to you."

October 7, 1980
You know I told you that we were going to have T.J.'s picture made. Well the appointment is this Thursday. Last night T.J. fell off the swing set somehow and got a mouth and nose full of dirt. Later after his bath I noticed that his nose was swollen and red. I sure hope it goes down before Thursday. It is not real noticeable. I don't guess a picture would really show the real Edmondson in him unless he had some sort of bump or bruise.

December 8, 1980
I left David watching Sesame Street while I dressed the other two and made beds. Well, as I worked my way to the living room I came upon a trail of styrofoam pieces. David had shredded a miniature light box. I said "get down here right now and pick this up." He said, "I was making crouton." My son the chef.

Amarillo

I'm back from Amarillo and in recovery mode. We did it all. Cadillac Ranch, Thrifting, Memaw's 80th birthday, Maggie's baptism, jamming in Uncle Gene's basement, cruising, junkin, laughing, dancing, Spindrift, draggin' Polk, and trading koozies. More pics to come.

New MacBook Pro

I finally joined the club this weekend. It's time to take my iMac back to school where it belongs. Mags and I did some serious photoboothing this weekend. She is mesmerized with her own image. I even made her teeny fingers push the trackpad to take the pictures. Adore!

Snow Weekend

My snow weekend was not off to a good start when I woke up Friday morning with no power. I packed up my stuff and headed to Hotel Carmel aka Moma's house. It was a good choice. My sister in law and my adorable niece were ready to play. We made snickerdoodles and played in the snow. We did laps around Target and the mall, coming back with denim leggings. I remember teasing my mom for wearing them in the 90s. She was a visionary I guess.  On Saturday night, we went to Denton and cheered for Apolo in the short track. The Olympics are more fun when you can scream and yell at the tv with your friends. We went to The Boiler Room and listened to some bluegrass followed by a smoke free show at Hailey's. It was amazing. (the smoke free part, not so much the band) My power didn't come back on until sometime Saturday night or Sunday morning. Homey was all thawed out. I ended the weekend with a date with my valentine. Not too shabby.

The Connie Sue Dollies

My Aunt Connie Sue has been at work! She made these super cute dollies during the blizzard in Amarillo. I love them and adore the picture itself.  I guess it must be a family thing to make these silly things.

Chili

I love it when I stop by my Moma's house and she sends me home with a jar of Bobby's chili.

Happy Birthday, Dad

Today would have been my dad's 58th birthday. He passed away 6 1/2 years ago. He taught me many life skills and how to be a good problem solver. He also loved us unconditionally. Here are a few of the things I learned from him. Happy Birthday, Punkin!

-how to hammer a nail into a two by four
-how to use a radial saw, mitre saw, hand saw, and jigsaw
-to lift using my knees
-to mute the tv during commercials
-to get up after I was knocked down in a soccer game (without complaining)
-that travelling is something you should take advantage of when you are young
-how to reload a shotgun shell (and a shotgun)
-how to work the clay bird thrower thingy
-if you are falling off a ladder with your chainsaw in your hand, throw the chainsaw as far away from you as possible
-how to wrap an egg roll
-Radar Love by Golden Earring is the best song ever
-how to change the oil in my car (all by myself)
-how to replace a flat tire with a spare
-how to drive a stick shift
-how to jumpstart a car, roll start a car, and push a car down the street
-that if you can’t fix something, go to home depot/lowes and buy a new, better one.
-the power of a love letter

This addition is from my brother, David.
what the Punkin taught me:

-if you're going to be the type of person who gets into fights, you'll
lose about as many as you'll win

-measure twice, cut once

-"we have the tools and the talent"...referring to the numerous auto
repairs we took on.

-check a firearm to see if it's loaded EVERY the moment you touch it

-lead the clay target

-shoulder a shotgun properly (or suffer a sore shoulder)

-if you don't have anyone to hit on the football field...find
someone...and hit them as hard as you can

-it's worth it to buy an expensive specialized tool even if you're only
going to use it once (you may get to use it again for someone else)

-use penetrant and patience on corroded nuts and bolts before you try
to wrench them off

-follow directions from the top

-algebra

Things the Punkin did that other folks just dont do:

-CA 1985, he built a gaming joystick out of spare parts for me to use
on the computer

-wrote internet protocol before there was such thing as Internet
Protocol (IP). He dazzled me when he pressed a button and a file
printed in Denver (CA 1986)

-built the heaviest engine hoist ever made from heavy gauge square
stock and a pneumatic jack

-self taught home renovator...he's self taught with everything he did

-bought solenoids, metal rods, and a radio receiver and created a
keyless entry for his pickup truck tool box

-impressed with his new drill press, he drilled a hole in a BB.

-built an electricity battery from potatoes...he had some zinc lying
around in addition to the copper needed to make it work
Now from T.J.
Things Dad taught me -
- In theory, you should be clean when getting out of the shower, so there’s no need to use a brand new clean towel every time.
- Wash your hands thoroughly before trimming your fingernails.
- Respect women and be a gentleman
- “Ty and I went to Mr. Gattis” is correct. “Me and Ty went to Mr. Gattis” is incorrect. He also added that it’s not polite to correct peoples grammar, and that he did so because he’s my father.
- When driving on the highway, occasionally look far down the road for any potential hazards
- It’s often better to listen to a high school football on the radio while sitting on the back porch in the cool Autumn air instead of going to the game
- Even adults with Republican leanings can appreciate and laugh hysterically at South Park
- It’s funny to purposefully mispronounce words like epitome
- Rebuilding your tool collection is best done after the two male offspring move away to college
- (when I was young) If someone is rambling on the phone and you’re trying to end the conversation, it’s impolite to just hang up on them
- If you’re 6 and can’t fall asleep, lie on your back, fold your hands together across your chest, close your eyes and think about all the fun places you’ve been
- How to build a fire in the fireplace using scrap lumber and a hatchet
- If a restaurant serves awesome sweet and sour sauce with their chicken and won’t share the recipe with you, gather to go portions on every visit to fill a jar at home until you have enough to cook a meal for your family
- How to safely handle a firearm at all times and especially when crossing a fence, getting into a deer blind, and walking with a group of people
- Pringles rule

Cooking with T.J.

My brother, TJ, has a new obsession with puff pastry dough. We are all very happy about it. Here he is making a calzone.TJ wrapping up his calzone: spinach, cheese, ricotta, sausage, and black olives
Greek salad
It's finished but still wicked hot.
Veggie pizza made with Betty Crocker instant pizza dough.
Emmy waiting for the pizza to come out of the oven.
The moment of truth.

Magic!
