Ohio
Happy New Year! I am finally enjoying my entire week off at home! We spent the first half of winter break in Columbus visiting family. We got there just in time for several inches of snow. It was nice to be somewhere that knew how to handle a winter storm. We toured campus and caught a glimpse of the Annie Liebovitz exhibit at their fine arts center. I am glad to be home. I have 4 swoon quilt squares to finish. I hope I can do it! I'll keep you posted.

San Diego
(fake pie)
I went to San Diego with Hank's family last week. We had a blast. We stayed in a super nice hotel with so many awesome native plants. Here in Texas they would be in a tiny pot. I really enjoyed the USS Midway and making photo collages with my pictures. Hank has an awesome family and I was honored to spend my favorite holiday with them. My Moma fed me leftovers last night!

San Antonio
Downtown San Antonio was really cool. We visited the Alamo, went to El Mercado, walked the entire Riverwalk, and tried Dough Pizzeria (as seen on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives). It was super yummy and worth the trip. Since I finished the novel, Texas, about a week ago, all of the history of the Alamo was very fresh in my mind. I love that I actually knew what happened inside and outside of those walls.

Saturday Night
On Saturday night, six of us drove to San Antonio for a beer/food pairing at Ranger Creek Brewery and Distillery. I am not much of a beer drinker, so I just took sips to match the food and then had Hank finish mine off. Every course was good. The final dessert was a chocolate cup cake with sea salt and bacon on top. They also gave us recipe cards for everything they made.

Week in Pics-Miami
Shots of downtown Miami
The inside of the Gusman Performing Arts Center
The Margulies Collection at the Warehouse had some amazing pieces.
These pencil drawings were as tall as me.
This girl embroidered all of this writing on this sheet. She had several of these hanging. It was such an interesting use of media.
I spent three days in Miami, FL for Young Arts week. Basically the cream of the crop of high school artists come together to perform, take master classes, and collaborate. I watched the dance performances, creative writing, cinematic arts, and the visual arts exhibition. All of the performances are on the young arts website. Take a look if you need some inspiration. I also got to eat some really good food and watch bad tv in the hotel room!

Lakehouse

I'm finally here. I came a day early to soak up some much needed alone time on the sofa with the remote. The rest of the gang will show up later tonight and tomorrow. My Uncle Ronnie has an amazing house that overlooks the 16th hole of the Lago Vista Golf Course on Lake Travis. The agenda for the weekend:
-grill
-feed the deer
-throw the frisbee on the 16th green
-grill
-float down the river
-play board games
-dance
-listen to Andy and Mike play their guitar and mandolin
-grill
-make eggs
-dance
-feed the deer
-sleep
-drive home
CAN'T WAIT!

Amarillo

I'm back from Amarillo and in recovery mode. We did it all. Cadillac Ranch, Thrifting, Memaw's 80th birthday, Maggie's baptism, jamming in Uncle Gene's basement, cruising, junkin, laughing, dancing, Spindrift, draggin' Polk, and trading koozies. More pics to come.
