Almost There

I only have 6 more days of work left! Summer is just around the corner. I managed to get some sewing done last weekend for the June 9 White Rock Local Market. This weekend I'm off to Austin. I'm hoping to do some paddleboarding or hike the Greenbelt. We have to take advantage of the water levels while we can.
My five mile race was a success! I had my best time but have since increased my pace. I'm down to a 10:30 mile. That's slow to some people but fast for me. I also got a sweet new bike rack for my car, which will significantly increase my chances of riding this summer. I look so sporty. Ha!

Weekend in pics

Hank repaired my screened in porch this weekend. It was busted through in four places. It was such a cheap fix I accidentally got some new plants and chairs while I was out. We put in some serious porch time this weekend.

I made herbed butter with fresh herbs from my garden: sweet basil, Thai basil, chives, parsley, and thyme.
I slathered it all over grilled corn and topped it off with parmesan. Best corn ever.
 I did a little baking...cinnamon streusel muffins
Here's the afternoon light I promised my new plants that they would get. Now I have to remember to water these too!

spring switch out!

My favorite time of spring is when I get my two giant plastic bins out of my garage and rediscover all of my spring and summer clothes. I take all of my winter stuff out of my closets and drawers and switch it out for spring and summer. My scarf drawer becomes my bathing suit drawer. My wire basket of tights and leggings will hold my shorts. I take all my summer dresses and put them out in place of my wool shifts. My boots get stuffed with tights and put away. I lay out all my sandals and flops. I do keep some transitional stuff out year round: cardigans for my freezing classroom, my new clog/mules that work all year, and light weight scarves. It's amazing how you can forget about a stack of cute tanks and shorts when you don't look at them every day. Or when you go to DSW to look at sandals and realize that you already have all the cute styles just waiting for you at home! Anything I didn't wear this fall/winter season goes to my sister in law. What she doesn't want goes to charity. For the most part, I never regret getting rid of clothes. Though I have had to re-buy some basics after a clean out. Like a black pencil skirt, white button ups, etc. I never wear that type of clothing, but it's great to have just in case. Like if you find yourself at a job interview. I have accumulated lots of jewelry in the past few years. I am thinking of taking it through a similar process. I am sentimental about some of it, but the rest...see you later chunky bead necklace from Forever 21!

So here's to March...and spring break next week! I'll be in Austin for seven days. Hopefully in shorts and sandals. They do have the good weather down there!

Weekend in Pics

I made French toast for the first time in years. I forgot how yummy it is.
Hank and I tried Rusty Taco for the first time. Approve.
On our way home from the store we saw batting cages and stopped and hit a few pitches. The slow pitch softball was way too easy. The 50mph softball however was SO hard to hit. I had to start swinging when the ball was still dropping into the thingy. I hit about four, tipped about six, and completely missed the rest. Good challenge though. Hank naturally hit a homer with every pitch.
My oven is broken (fixable, but broken currently) so I couldn't bake a yummy dessert for Supper Club. Luckily Whole Foods had these amazing little cannolis. They were way better than what I would have made. I tried turnips for the first time in my life on Saturday night. Not too shabby! They were braised in broth and butter so that really helps. I can't quite describe them. Potato meets onion meets broccoli stem flavor?

Weekend in Pics

I have been washing old jars and bottles and soaking the labels off. I am getting quite a collection.
Paige and I went to Tillman's Roadhouse for lunch. Yum as always. Get in here is my new favorite saying.
I spent a gift card at Hobby Lobby yesterday. I got this cute basket, a mason jar, some fabric for some baby gifts, bias tape, valentine doilies, two skeins of cotton yarn (for baby wash cloths), and two glass knobs for my bedside table makeover.

Weekend in Pics

In Katy's basket: Meyer's Honeysuckle dish soap, a bag of Sailor's Blend coffee, two hand knitted wash cloths, three cans of orange creme soda, a nail file, and a muslin patchwork dish towel.

I took a non-conventional drawing workshop on Saturday with Michael Ryan of SAIC. It was so awesome. We made marks by pushing and pulling our materials into circles.
Best teaching idea ever: We toasted a value scale. I am still so blown away by this idea.
I got my hair cut Saturday afternoon and this is my totally pretentious look at me pic. Oh, and my new ten dollar sunglasses are pretty cute, too.
My friend Tolga turned 40 this weekend. Amidst all of the camera flashes, my iphone picked up this blue tint. The cake was cappuccino chocolate from Panini Cakes. SO GOOD. Wedding cake caliber.

Post Christmas with the B's

Mary B had the most beautiful tree.
Military Ken had his own pressies to deliver.
I seriously considered stealing some of these tiny trees.
Beth and I worked at least four puzzles. I met my match with that girl.
We listened to some good records
I copied some of Mary B's favorite recipes.
I forgot to actually try this ribbon candy, but I bet it was yummy.
I don't like olives, but I tried these based on presentation alone.
My favorite new years drink was the Tom Collins. Note the adorable vintage cocktail napkin.

I was so grateful to spend the post holidays with Hank's family. I made myself right at home and was so sad for our 5 days of partying/lounging/cooking/gaming to end. It was great for our parents to finally meet, too!

Weekend in Pics

I had an awesome time at the lakehouse in Austin, handed out candy at Moma's, caught a cool sunset driving into downtown Dallas, and got my yarn bowl from Paige!

Weekend in Pics

I had another great weekend with the boy. We had an awesome dinner at Tilman's Roadhouse on Friday night. Table side S'mores are a must. We accidentally went shopping at NorthPark and saw a really bad movie. On Sunday we played tennis, visited The Shining, and replaced the deadbolt on my front door. Well, I watched Hank do it.

Weekend

My inventory is looking pretty good. I still need more. Since I've taken this photo, I've added knit circle scarves to the lot.

I already miss my roomie. I'm sure the one month expiration date is what made it so special. I am so proud of her.

I saw this top on Wiksten Made and tried to copy it from the picture. It turned out alright, but I'm sure her pattern is way better than mine. So I ordered it. I ordered it last Saturday though, I wonder where it is. I'm signing off for the weekend, and I will have done nothing creative this weekend. It will be great!
