My Top Ten Songs of 2010

Sean Hayes - When We Fall In from cleanwhitelines on Vimeo.

Last year I did a top ten song list. Here goes 2010. These songs did not necessarily come out in 2010, just my favorites that I jammed all year.

1. When We Fall In-Sean Hayes (aka ALL TIME BEST SONG EVER! One of my old friends turned me on to Sean Hayes and I will be forever grateful. See the video above)
2. Free-Zac Brown Band (this song is great to float in the pool to and pretend like you can actually sing harmony with it)
3. Interstate-Randy Rogers Band (This song came out this year. My cousin and I used to listen to it on YouTube because we were so desperate to hear it)
4. Comfort You-Denison Witmer (Joel put this on a mix for me. It's a super rare Van Morrison song)
5. Home-Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros (this song is cliche now, but it's still so good and puts me in the best mood. Once my 4th period class randomly started singing it and we all joined in)
6. Coney Island-Good Old War (I jammed this one weekend at the Lakehouse and loved it)
7. Pursuit of Happiness-Lissie (I got this of Joel's blog and played it on repeat all summer)
8. The Only Exception-Paramore (this song is great to listen to on repeat while driving back from Austin)
9. Rude Boy-Rihanna (the only way I can run on a treadmill is to listen to this song)
10. Speak Now-Taylor Swift (At first I wasn't happy with her singing about interrupting a wedding, but the melody is so damn catchy)

Dear Vicki

I love The Shining. Jarrod Gorbel did a free show last night in her store. Francois is her new mascot and she is constantly bringing in new pieces that I covet. Keep it up, Vicki.

Shag

This is one of my favorite movies. This clip has to be my favorite part. When I watched this with my girlfriends, I was always Pudge. I still would love to learn to do this dance. I'm going to jam to oldies all weekend thanks to this movie, and my new oldies mix from Joel.

Playlist Card #3

This one is for Vicki. I'm working on a card line for her new jewelry shop, The Shining, set to open in late August. Inspiration: Ten Years Older by Jarrod Gorbel

Housewarming Card

My friend Meagan and her husband just bought a house in Boston. I've had this idea for a while to make cards with song titles from my summer playlists. This is inspired by Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.

Holga Film-Day 4

Day four had it's moments. Two of my friends' mothers passed away last night. I found out this morning. It's a hard thing to hear. Having lost a parent at 23, this hits home. So tell your parents you love them.

I picked up my year old Holga film from Expert Imaging. I was surprised that so many "came out." These are my two favorites. So the windmill is for Bethanne, and the sunset for Ty. I love you guys.

Here's the song that makes me think of my Moma: I'll Always Come Back- K.T. Oslin

Laura Marling

I heart Laura Marling. She is only 20 and writes the most beautiful, grown up songs. I first heard her on Later with Jools Holland. She was 18 and wearing a Spice Girls t-shirt. She looked terrified. She was so adorable and perfect. I just found out she is finally coming to Dallas to promote her new album. May 23rd at the Loft. Can't wait!

Someone spesh sent me this video. It's pretty much my new favorite song. It makes me want to wear my vintage hat with the feathers and the mesh.

Texas Country

Rodney Parker at Andy's Bar
Randy Rogers in Stephenville, TX

Since last summer I have become more and more into country music. Not so much the stuff on the radio, but local Texas country. I have seen several of these bands live, and it makes me love them even more. My cousin, Nicki, has been keeping me up to date on the best bands. I recently made this mix for my two buddies in Boston. They love country, but don’t have music like this up there.
Runaway (live acoustic version)-Love and Theft
Question-Old 97s
Like It Used to Be-Randy Rogers Band
I’m Never Getting Married-Rodney Parker & 50 Peso Reward
Texas Angel-Honeybrowne
So Close Now-Eli Young Band
Before I Believe It’s True-Randy Rogers Band
Texas Moon-Stoney Larue
Beat of Your Heart-Cory Morrow
Bring It On Home-Little Big Town
Brother-Rodney Parker & 50 Peso Reward
When It Rains-Eli Young Band
Murder (Or a Heart Attack)-Old 97s
A Little More You-Little Big Town
Kiss Me in the Dark-Randy Rogers Band
Good Night for Dancing-Josh Abbott Band
Tell Me What It Is-Rodney Parker & 50 Peso Reward

New Album

I never buy music as soon as it comes out. Mostly because I never know about it until months later. My friend Joel told me about this today, so I downloaded it, thanks to a $31 credit left on my itunes gift card from xmas. Yay! So far so good! My favorite track so far is Give Up the Gun. I listened to it on repeat on my way to register my soccer team tonight. The whole album has a Paul Simon vibe that I am loving. So if you like Graceland, you will probably like this album.

Top Ten

Inspired by Kelsey's blog, here are my top ten songs from this year. It's funny to see what songs you listen to most when you order your itunes by play count. These aren't necessarily songs that came out this year, just the most jammed in my car. They are also the songs most likely to appear on a mix cd from me.

1. Big Green Tractor-Jason Aldean (this song helped me make one of the biggest decisions of my life)
2. Stay-Sugarland (the video is so heart wrenching. She also wears the most amazing shade of metallic eyeliner)
3. Skinny Love-Bon Iver (this is my favorite band right now)
4. Hometown Glory-Adele (this song reminds me of an amazing new friend I met this year. Love you, Liz!)
5. In My Arms Instead-Randy Rogers Band (some amazing Texas country, so good live)
6. A Song For You-Donny Hathaway (such a smooth voice, and a Bon Iver favorite)
7. Heartbeats-Jose Gonzalez (my friend Joel gave me this song on a mix, and I still love it)
8. If It Kills Me-Jason Mraz (I first heard this song on SYTYCD and fell in love with it, even though that other Jason Mraz song makes me suicidal)
9. January Wedding-The Avett Brothers (a new band to me this year, and it reminds me of a song you would hear at a once wed wedding)
10. Alone-Heart (If I could sing, this is what I would sing at Karaoke)
